A Celebration of Heritage, Conservation, and Connection
We are thrilled to introduce Ekhaya Safaris, the reimagined boutique hunting reserve located in the heart of the Eastern Cape, just outside Cradock. Ekhaya, meaning “home” in isiXhosa, embodies the soul of Africa, a deep connection to nature, and the warmth of family. This new identity reflects our commitment to restoring the natural balance, preserving the African wilderness, and honoring the traditions that sustain it.

The Vision of Ekhaya
Ekhaya Safaris is more than a destination—it is a sanctuary where the harmony between humanity and nature is celebrated. Built on principles of sustainability, conservation, family, and African heritage.

Ekhaya is dedicated to:
Conservation of endangered species through ethical, sustainable practices that ensure wildlife flourishes for generations to come.
Restoring the natural landscape to its pristine state, erasing the scars of human intervention.
Honoring African culture and traditions, bringing guests closer to the spirit of the land.
The Tam Family Legacy

Steeped in history, the Tam family are 4th-generation entrepreneurs who have called Cradock home since 1902. Known for their pioneering work in South Africa’s ecotourism and wildlife industries, they established Tam Game Breeders in 2016, specializing in conserving endangered color variants and contributing significantly to the preservation of Africa’s majestic wildlife.
With a focus on pioneering buffalo and sable breeding, the family has introduced 55″ sable bulls into their breeding projects, alongside buffalo exceeding 50″, to replenish the diminished gene pool caused by past overhunting and unethical practices. Their commitment to ethical conservation serves as the foundation for Ekhaya Safaris’ sustainable hunting and breeding programs.
A Family’s Passion for Wildlife and Conservation
At the heart of Ekhaya Safaris lies a story of deep-rooted love for nature, passed down through generations. It all began with Keith Tam, whose lifelong connection to the wild was sparked as a young boy hunting in the vast landscapes of Cradock alongside his father. Those Defining childhood memories instilled in him not only a profound respect for wildlife but also a vision to protect and conserve it.
Today, that vision is carried forward by Keith and his wife, Nan Tam, along with their three sons Donovan, Josh, and Daniel who share the same unwavering passion for Africa’s natural heritage. What started as a childhood bond between father and son has grown into a family mission, blending sustainable ecotourism with meaningful conservation efforts.
Ekhaya Safaris is more than just a business; it’s a testament to the Tam family’s dedication to preserving the wild spaces that shaped them. Through hands-on involvement in wildlife management, habitat restoration, and ethical hunting practices, they ensure that future generations can experience the same untouched beauty that first inspired Keith.
